Specialising in architecture, Märraum is an emerging and innovative studio based in Cornwall. Run by English and German professionals, the company prides itself on being a blend of modern British and continental values and methods, all carried off with a touch of inspiration from traditional Cornish styles.
Dedicated to building their reputation for projects that are always individually crafted for specific customers, Märraum approached us with a task of packaging their identity for the web. We set about promoting their outlook and credentials whilst showing the studio’s scope along with the impressive skill of its members. Investing in web presence for the first time, these architects also asked us to support them on their way to achieving a favourable market position in the British architecture industry.
To offer Märraum an outstanding and relevant web identity.
Our initial research into Märraum’s competitors indicated that the majority of architects in Britain and beyond had, however practical, rather dated and visually unappealing websites. It was difficult to find inspiration. We embarked on our mission to go against this trend by producing something that offered users a thrilling visual experience that matched Märraum’s stunning and innovative designs, yet still reflected their functional, customer-orientated approach.
Having discussed it with the client, we opted for a website with a sleek layout and lots of illustrative materials to bring the beauty and appeal of Märraum’s style to the forefront of their company identity. In other words, we were going to create almost the exact opposite of what corporate sites in their field presented.
We soon encountered our main challenge with this project, which was related to wrapping all photos, illustrations, drawings, etc. in a consistent design. The task was especially difficult considering that all of the members of the studio each had their own individual style.
It was agreed very early on in our collaboration that Dots+Circles would provide Märraum with an ongoing marketing strategy. The target was to position the studio at the top of Google searches for architects in Cornwall—a process that we estimated would take at least seven months. With this achieved, we decided to broaden our horizons and take Märraum to face their online competitors in Southwest England and beyond.
The design and web development for this project was completed in-house at Dots+Circles, whereas the process of writing web copy for this site was managed in collaboration with Stranger Collective.
Working with Dots+Circles has been a straightforward, enjoyable experience. They are a varied team with extensive knowledge in all areas of website design. What impressed us was their attention to SEO and focus on building our website around it, without comprising on the design elements.
Communication was very easy and flexible and we really felt like they wanted our website to be the best it could be. Although it has just launched I am confident it will help raise our professional profile and lead to new and exciting job opportunities.
